Drew Inman’s Picks:

#5 Incantation – Dirges of Elysium

Incantation is the king of Slow Death. They never disappoint when I’m in the mood for 10 G’s of heavy.

#4 Bloodbath – Grand Morbid Funeral

Bloodbath, like Hypocrisy, gives me everything I love about Swedish Death Metal, Melodic leads with thrashy riffing.

#3 Dead Congregation – Promulgation of the Fall

They carry the “Carcass” style better than anyone else I’ve heard. DC = sheer brutality.

#2 Impaled Nazarene – Vigorous and Liberating Death

I.N. is my favorite B.M. band because they take their music seriously, but have fun with the imagery. This album was especially cool because they strayed from the clean cut production of the last two and made this one a little more raw with the guitar tone reminiscent of Brian Tatler Diamond Head.

#1 Cannibal Corpse – A Skeletal Domain

Corpse is one of my top 5, period. This album has a killer bass tone and some of they’re most old-school C.C. sounding songs in years. The only negative is that it’s a little too polished production-wise for my taste in D.M. production, but that’s what they meant to achieve according to Alex, so I respect that artist to artist.

Adam Riley’s List:

#5 Bloodbath – Grand Morbid Funeral

People seem to be concerned that Nick Holmes can’t replace Mikael Akerfeldt, well in my opinion the vocals are different than before but the song structures and the riffs in this album are amazing and I think that Nick’s vocals take the band down a darker path than before.

#4 Gravehill – Death Curse

One of the greatest bands to come out in the 2000’s and fronted by one of the most metal dudes around. The new guitar players are killer and do the band justice. All hail Gravehill!

#3 Incantation – Dirges of Elysium

One of my favorite death metal bands of all time, terrific album and it has such a quick pace and just killer riffs. John McEntee is truly a master of his craft.

#2 Dead Congregation – Promulgation of the Fall

Amazing band from Greece. I haven’t been able to put this album down since it came out. Awesome guitar work and so heavy, they are definitely carrying the flag for newer bands playing old school death metal.

#1 Nausea – Condemned to the System

Oscar is the man, and if you have ever wished there would be a new Terrorizer album that sounds like World Downfall, this is your album! Grind, groove, speed. What more could you want from some old school guys doing grind right?
